Obama’s ‘association’ with the Weathermen

October 15, 2008 at 12:25 am (conservative bitchslapping, My personal opinion, Politics, Racism, Republicans being stupid) (, , , , , , , , , )

The latest of Republican smears against Obama is his link with former terrorist William Ayers, part of the Weathermen, an Anti-Vietnam extremist group.  This association stems from a 1995 meeting at a luncheon, and the two men serving on an anti-poverty board.  However, the right wing spin machine would have you believe that Obama supported terrorist activities that were committed when he was just a small child.  Even the head prosecutor of the weathermen case says this is bullshit, as he stated in a letter to the New York Times this past friday.

As the lead federal prosecutor of the Weathermen in the 1970s (I was then chief of the criminal division in the Eastern District of Michigan and took over the Weathermen prosecution in 1972), I am amazed and outraged that Senator Barack Obama is being linked to William Ayers’s terrorist activities 40 years ago when Mr. Obama was, as he has noted, just a child.

Although I dearly wanted to obtain convictions against all the Weathermen, including Bill Ayers, I am very pleased to learn that he has become a responsible citizen.

Because Senator Obama recently served on a board of a charitable organization with Mr. Ayers cannot possibly link the senator to acts perpetrated by Mr. Ayers so many years ago.

I do take issue with the statement in your news article that the Weathermen indictment was dismissed because of “prosecutorial misconduct.” It was dismissed because of illegal activities, including wiretaps, break-ins and mail interceptions, initiated by John N. Mitchell, attorney general at that time, and W. Mark Felt, an F.B.I. assistant director.

William C. Ibershof

Mill Valley, Calif., Oct. 8, 2008

As anyone who has a few minutes to do some reading will find out, this %100 retarded attempt to connect Obama to terrorist activities which took place decades earlier is beyond absurd. It would be like trying to connect Bush to Al Queida based on the fact that his father worked with Osama’s relatives as part of the Carlyle group. Of course there is no need to let the truth get in the way of a good smear campaign.

However, since we’re going to play the ‘Guilt by association’ card though, wasn’t Todd Palin (a.k.a. the republican candidate’s running mate’s husband) a member of a group that wanted Alaska to separate from the union (It doesn’t get more Anti-American than that) from 1995 – 2002? Yet Sarah Palin is married to and has kids with this guy. If Michelle Obama was part of such a group, we would never hear the end of it.

Oh yeah, wasn’t McCain trying to get the support of pastor John Hagee, who stated that gays are responsible for hurricane Katrina and Hitler was doing god’s work? That’s as hateful as anything Reverend Wright said, yet he gets a pass on it.  Lets not even get into McCain’s associations with the Keating 5 and Watergare break-in participant Gordon Liddy.  Of course, since Republicans can do no wrong…

Gotta love double standards.

So, where were all the people who wanted Mike Vick’s head on a pike last year now?

September 18, 2008 at 12:30 am (conservative bitchslapping, My personal opinion, Politics, Racism, Republicans being stupid) (, , , , , , , , , )

Where is PETA when you need them? You can’t tell me that shooting at dogs from a low flying airplane is just as bad, if not worse than forcing them to fight each other.

So Mike Vick is having dog fights in his basement and everyone wants his head, yet shooting at dogs from a low flying airplane is kosher? I know I’m gonna be acused of playing the race card, but if you ask me, It’s just white privilege for you.

Speaking of which, here is a good article from writer Tim Wise on the subject. Here are some of my favorite parts:

White privilege is when you can get pregnant at seventeen like Bristol Palin and everyone is quick to insist that your life and that of your family is a personal matter, and that no one has a right to judge you or your parents, because “every family has challenges,” even as black and Latino families with similar “challenges” are regularly typified as irresponsible, pathological and arbiters of social decay.

White privilege is when you can call yourself a “fuckin’ redneck,” like Bristol Palin’s boyfriend does, and talk about how if anyone messes with you, you’ll “kick their fuckin’ ass,” and talk about how you like to “shoot shit” for fun, and still be viewed as a responsible, all-American boy (and a great son-in-law to be) rather than a thug.

White privilege is being able to say that you support the words “under God” in the pledge of allegiance because “if it was good enough for the founding fathers, it’s good enough for me,” and not be immediately disqualified from holding office–since, after all, the pledge was written in the late 1800s and the “under God” part wasn’t added until the 1950s–while believing that reading accused criminals and terrorists their rights (because, ya know, the Constitution, which you used to teach at a prestigious law school requires it), is a dangerous and silly idea only supported by mushy liberals.

White privilege is being able to have a husband who was a member of an extremist political party that wants your state to secede from the Union, and whose motto was “Alaska first,” and no one questions your patriotism or that of your family, while if you’re black and your spouse merely fails to come to a 9/11 memorial so she can be home with her kids on the first day of school, people immediately think she’s being disrespectful.

White privilege is being able to fire people who didn’t support your political campaigns and not be accused of abusing your power or being a typical politician who engages in favoritism, while being black and merely knowing some folks from the old-line political machines in Chicago means you must be corrupt.

White privilege is being able to attend churches over the years whose pastors say that people who voted for John Kerry or merely criticize George W. Bush are going to hell, and that the U.S. is an explicitly Christian nation and the job of Christians is to bring Christian theological principles into government, and who bring in speakers who say the conflict in the Middle East is God’s punishment on Jews for rejecting Jesus, and everyone can still think you’re just a good church-going Christian, but if you’re black and friends with a black pastor who has noted (as have Colin Powell and the U.S. Department of Defense) that terrorist attacks are often the result of U.S. foreign policy and who talks about the history of racism and its effect on black people, you’re an extremist who probably hates America.

I’d add my own thoughts, but dude took the words right out of my mouth.

Cocksuckers on Patrol: Sean Bell’s Killers Found Not Guilty & Tarika Wilson

April 26, 2008 at 12:53 am (My personal opinion, Police Brutality, Politics, Racism) (, , , )

Sadly, and perhaps unsurprisingly, the three police officers who murdered Sean Bell were cleared of all charges today. For those who forgot, Sean Bell was the 23 year old would-be groom and father of 1 who was shot by officers Michael Oliver, Marc Cooper, and Gescard Isnora as he and his friends were leaving a strip club the night before his wedding. The three officers were wearing plain clothes, did not identify themselves, and had an unmarked car. The three victims were unarmed.

This is on the reels of the January shooting death of Tarika Wilson, a Lima Ohio woman who was shot by officers serving a warrant on her boyfriend. Her 14-month old child, whom she was holding at the time of her murder, was also wounded, losing a finger. Joseph Chavila, was indicted this past March on negligent homicide charges. The shooting happened during a fucking SWAT RAID in which the boyfriend in question was arrested for a suspicion of possession of crack cocaine charge.

Lord knows I said this countless times before, but I don’t know what’s more disgusting. The fact that this kind of thing happens as frequently as it does, or the fact that there are people, usually white, who will defend shit like this. Hopefully the Bell family will see some justice done during the civil suit, and Tarika’s killer will be convicted. Until then, we need to start standing up for ourselves. I don’t know how much more of this bullshit we have to endure. There are cops out there who are corrupt and/or incompetent, and as we have learned from Bell, Diallo, and countless others, there are judges who are more than willing to let them off the hook. I don’t want to advocate any criminal action, but we gotta defend ourselves. Bottom Line: if you’re armed, and someone runs up on you ready to shoot, and they DIDN’T say that they’re a cop, then BLOW HIS FUCKING HEAD OFF.

Mario is Missing….

March 15, 2008 at 1:58 am (missing white women, Politics, Racism)

Update: Sadly, two months ago, this young man was found dead. He was found floating in Lake Erie this past April. Coroners ruled his death accidental.

…and of course the media, the same people who give us minute-by-minute coverage of every young middle class white woman which goes missing, seemingly doesn’t care. 21 year old Mario Williams of Canton was last seen at a Cleveland nightclub. While attending a rap concert, he got separated from his entourage. His family found a cell phone which contained a picture of him tied up inside a trunk. Surprisingly, (or maybe not) despite the amount of attention given to cases such as Jessie Davis and Natalie Holloway, there has been very little attention given to this case. Why this young man’s picture wasn’t posted on the front page of every newspaper or magazine like certain other missing persons is a mystery to me. Although I don’t know this man, a missing family member is a tragedy, and our media must take every effort to help bring them home, regardless of their demographic.

Show your support for the Jena 6

September 20, 2007 at 2:51 pm (information, Jena 6, My personal opinion, Politics, Racism)

The Jena 6 are 6 young men from Louisiana who have had attempted murder charges bought against them. I don’t feel like doing much typing, so this is from the facebook group about the matter:

http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=6338241062

(You’ll have to be a member of facebook to see it)

“The Jena 6 is a group of young men in Jena, Louisiana, that are being charged for a heinous crime in which the charges are way out of control. The controversy began when one of the young men back in September of 2006 asked an administrator if he could sit under the shade of a tree that was “reserved” for the white students. The administrator replied by telling the young man to sit where he liked, so he did. The next day when everyone returned to the school, there where 3 nooses painted in school colors hanging from the tree. The school principal found the 3 white students that did it, and passed it off as a “youthful prank”. They were suspended for 3 days.

The black students decided to call for a sit in under this “tree”. The police were called and so was the District Attorney Reed Walters. He had an assembly in the school, where he made such a statement to the black student body, “I can end your lives with the stroke of a pen”. No future action was taken after that.

A few months later at a party in the town, a couple black boys were beaten up by a group of young white males. There were no charges brought upon the teens. A few weeks later a white male pulled a gun on 3 black young men. The gun was taken away by the black young men and they went to the police to let them know what happened. The three young men were charged with theft if an armed weapon. No charges were brought upon the male who pulled the gun on them.

In December 2006, in the halls of the Jena high school, a young white male was taunting and picking at one of the young men that were beaten up at the party. The white male was then “jumped” by some black students. The six black students were charged with attempted second-degree murder and conspiracy. They face up to 100 years in prison without parole. The Jena Six, as they have come to be known, range in age from 15 to 17 years old.

In July 2007, an all-white jury took less than two days to convict 17 year-old Mychal Bell, the first of the Jena Six to go on trial. He was convicted of aggravated battery and conspiracy charges and now faces up to 22 years in prison. Some of the men were unable to make bail. So they sit in jail and await court dates. The bail ranges from $70,000 to $183,000.

After Tenisha Wilkerson read this on the site DemocracyNow.org, she knew it was time to take a stand. She is organizing a committee by the name of Midwest Committee for the Jena 6. They will be having a peaceful rally on Sunday, September 9th 2007 at 9am. They will march from NBC 5 studios to ABC 7 studios in Chicago, Illinois. There is no media coverage on this issue that is going on. Media attention is strongly needed. The rally will end at city hall.

We are calling for all aldermen, congressmen, media stations, press, & anyone who wants to stand for the rights of these six young men, to come out on September 9th 2007 and stand for justice.

To learn more about the Midwest Committee for the Jena 6, please email MCJena6@gmail.com. For more information on the Jena 6, please log on to DemocarcyNow.com, or NAACP.com.”

Cocksuckers on Patrol: Police Harassment at Kent State

January 25, 2007 at 3:54 pm (Kent State, Police Brutality, Politics, Racism)

Last week, the Kent Stater reported on the story of Rick Rucker, a 26 year old KSU alumni who was harassed by police and was arrested along with 4 others. Rucker filed a formal complaint against the KPD. Last week, Black United Students held a meeting in which Rucker presented his side of events. One of the key points the BUS hammered home was that police brutality was not restricted to just one race. It in fact affects everyone. Just as k the [white and asian]people who were hit with rubber bullets and tear gas during 2001’s Townhomes near riots.

Of course, this is bound to attract all the racists and police apologists who think this sort of action is justified.  The Stater ran an article about the various comments being posted on the article.  Most of them run along the lines of either “He was a nigger, therefore he deserved it” and “police do nothing wrong!  If he was arrested, he had it comming to him!”.  More importantly though, becuase of BUS’s involvement in the affair “Oh no!  It’s another race issue!”.  THis could be further from the truth.  As was stated at teh meeting, there were several types of people who were approached by the police.  It gets confused as a racial affair becuase of the ethnicity of the victim as well as the involvement of BUS.  In reality, though, BUS is involved simply becuase tehy were the first to call the meeting and show concern over what happened, and they tend to be more vocal about these issues.  If say, some fraternity group, or even the college Republicans had called this meeting, then it wouldn’t be a race issue.  Politics, but not race.

The point here is that weather you are black, white, asian, hispanic, or whatever else, police brutality is something that affects us all.  You might think it’s okay becuase you’re a good little white christian conservative who dosen’t party or attend anti-war protests, but it can and will happen to you if you get caught in the wrong place at the wrong time.  Just remember, when they come for you, there will be on one left to speak up for you.

Happy MLK Day

January 15, 2007 at 3:01 pm (conservative bitchslapping, Politics, Racism)

mlkjr.jpgHappy Martin Luther King Jr day. the one day a year to remember the life and times of a man who has done as much as (if not more than) any president. There are some people (*cough*racists. rednecks, extreme right wingers *hack*) who will try to down play the man’s contributions to the world, but who gives a shit what they think? MLK jr’s dream was equality for everyone, including you, me, and even idiots like these. So if you should hear them or see them on the web spewing thier misguided hatred, don’t sweat it, they are only showing the world how ignorant they are and how much better Martin Luther King was in contrast.

Besides, as much as they piss and moan about MLK jr having a special holiday, they are probably glad to have a paid holiday off, or they’re mad that thier McDonalds working asses can’t get the day off.
